LEAN Healthcare:  A Roadmap to Excellence

In today's economic climate, healthcare providers must find ways to trim costs and manage cash-flow while continuing to improve patient care.   LEAN principles applied to healthcare have shown to provide dramatic results.  "LEAN Healthcare:  A Roadmap to Excellence" is a course to showcase the power and utility of LEAN.  Attendees will gain useful insights through activities to see firsthand the breakthrough improvement possibilities with LEAN in Healthcare.  

Description

This is an activity based 24-hour workshop to learn and apply LEAN in a healthcare setting.  Attendees will prepare themselves to serve as facilitators, coaches and subject matter resources for problem solving, waste elimination and continuous improvement efforts throughout the organization.  It will be conducted in 4-hour sessions that meet weekly enabling attendees to apply what was learned to an actual work related project.  

Objectives                                

As a result of this workshop participants should be able to:

• Describe LEAN and explain how it can be used to improve patient care while reducing costs
• Analyze and improve process performance using Value Stream / Process Maps
• Use PDCA and A3's to solve problems and continuously improve
• Apply basic quality tools (cause & effect, multi-voting, process flow, Pareto, run chart, 5-why, etc)
• Recognize the 8 types of waste and explain how PDCA can be used to eliminate them
• Recognize and use tools in the LEAN toolbox and explain how each is applied to healthcare (5S, quick changeovers, kanban, standard work, etc)
