This Essential Interviewing Skills course teaches participants how to interview for the behaviors, knowledge, and motivations that are needed to be successful in a job. This program is designed for all levels of supervision/management and professionals involved in recruiting, screening, interviewing and making hiring recommendations or decisions.  This 8 hour course will be held on February 22 and March 1, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Workshop Purpose and Objectives

Essential (Behavioral) Interviewing Skills is a workshop designed to provide a practical, hands-on approach to the selection process.  Through the use of individual exercises, lecture and group discussions, the workshop will provide participants with an experiential learning process.  The workshop provides training to improve interviewing skills and increases interviewer confidence.  The program also reinforces legal concerns, particularly under the EEOC guidelines and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  In today's competitive environment, the ability to conduct productive behavioral interviews is a necessary skill for leaders participating in the selection process.  Organizations can no longer afford the ever increasing costs associated with poor hiring decisions.  It is now a business priority to be professional interviewers able to consistently evaluate and select the best qualified candidate for the position.

 Participants will learn:

  • How to identify effective behavioral interviewing techniques
  • How to prepare for and structure the interview process
  • How to identify specific job requirements
  • What EEO and ADA considerations exist in the hiring process
  • How to better screen and evaluate applications and resumes
  • How to use behavioral questioning techniques that get results
  • How to document the selection process
