MICHIGAN BUSINESS: SURVIVING TO THRIVING PDF

Mission Statement: Stabilize employment levels of Michigan businesses and foster growth.

Funded by the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth (DELEG), the Michigan Business: Surviving to Thriving program (MB:S2T) at the University of Michigan is designed to assist Michigan businesses in becoming globally competitive in current economic conditions via diversification, technology, and overall improvement in the performance of a firm.

Diagnostic Analysis and Planning

MB:S2T Project Managers and the firm work together to develop a realistic strategy and plan of action.

Typical engagements include:

  • Identification of competitive strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
  • Development of a customized action plan, with a special emphasis on diversification
  • Detail the specific projects necessary to improve the firm's performance

The diagnostic analysis and planning is provided on a cost-shared basis. The MB:S2T program pays 75% of the cost. Fees to the client firm range from $1,000 to $2,000.

Implementation

MB:S2T Project Managers assist firms in arranging for the outside technical assistance needed for the projects identified during the planning phase and help fund those projects.

 Typical implementation services include:

  • Searches for required talent/service providers
  • Assistance in vetting potential providers
  • Assistance in development and release of request for proposals
  • Assistance with contracting the service providers
  • Provide matching funds up to $35,000 toward provider's services (70/30 matching)
  • Monitor provider performance to assure client firm receives expected results

The implementation of projects is on a cost-shared basis. The MB:S2T program pays 70% of the cost of service providers up to $35,000 (toward $50,000 of project costs).
